My first EV, The Elect-Reck at Ga-Tech - 1970

This article by Gretchen Larson, the wife of Dr. Ron Larson, our mentor, appears in the 1970 Ga Tech Alumni magazine and is reproduced here for convenience.

Unfortunately, although I started the project with an old WWII airplane starter motor and the chassis from a Volkswagon as shown below, it was 1970 and I was in ROTC so the week of graduation, I had to report immediately for duty in California and did not get to actually drive the finished car until a brief visit later in the fall at Homecoming. I still remember driving it around the parking lot of the EE building with nothing but a bunch of old batteries as shown and a heavy duty contactor from an old manually driven elevator.

.

I finally got back to EV's with the purchase of a City Car in 1980 shown below. after completion of my Navy career.
